<> is an HTML thing and we don't allow most symbols in names. They become quite unweildy after a while.

A good example but quite simply, HTML is the predominant language for creating web pages.

When naming an individual, it clearly states NOT to use ANY symbols. You can safely use your 3 or 4 LETTER prefix that you are to register on your home page under "account information". This prevents anyone from using the same prefix. This is just like the real world. You might not get your first choice. I had to use an abbreviation for bluff (BLF) for mine as PBF was already taken, but I am happy with my choice.

I am sorry for all of you, truly. But it states clearly, NO SYMBOLS when naming a calf. Maybe in the past, at the games inception it was ok and things changed over a course of time. I don't know. I can not comment. But today, it's pretty clear. And now you know the reason. Again, sorry some of you found out the hard way. Think about how you can relay your brand or prefix into a letters only format. Get creative. Then register it so that it's yours.

Admin - My bull 100/1 is still missing. Now I've lost like 5 calves because he's "not found in the database". I didn't choose that name for him, I didn't market him. Where did he go?

JCV, you are correct. The reason why is because some, if not most breeds require you to tattoo your ranch prefix in the ear. So only the letters (A-Z) in a standard tattoo set may be used.
